La Représentation du corps et de la musique dans Jazz de Toni Morrison

Antona Healey

Résumé :
The purpose of this study is to analyse several short extracts from Toni Morrison's sixth novel Jazz in order to look carefully into the link she creates between body and music. The bodies of Morrison's characters are all literally haunted by the rhythm and musicality of jazz. Music is of course the main theme of the book but Morrison goes further and chooses to revive the power of the spoken word and infuse her language with resonant sound and musicality, through what has now been celebrated as her “jazzy prose style”; which infuses the whole body of the text.
