Situated midway between Lemma-Icon-Epigram and Shadowtime, Brian Ferneyhough's piece Kurze Schatten II illustrates, not least by means of its title, the composer's fascination with the philosopher Walter Benjamin. The purpose of this article is to examine, first of all, the links between this work and Benjamin’s text, from which he drew his initial inspiration. Finally, I will attempt to demonstrate, in examining the notion of "aura", the ways in which the composer's thinking and that of the philosopher are connected.

À mi-chemin entre Lemma-Icon-Epigram et Shadowtime, la pièce pour guitare Kurze Schatten II de Brian Ferneyhough illustre, dès son titre, l’intérêt que porte le compositeur pour le philosophe Walter Benjamin. L’objet de cet article est d’étudier tout d’abord les liens qui unissent cette œuvre au texte de Benjamin dont elle s’inspire, puis de voir comment, à travers la notion d’« aura », se concrétise un véritable rapprochement entre la pensée du compositeur et celle du philosophe.
