Altérité et valuation dans les emplois absolus de enough et too
Résumé :
This paper sets out to characterize the qualitative values of enough and too when used in elliptic constructions in which the referential norm is not realised. It is shown that enough may take two values. It is negatively oriented when any progress towards the zone of excess on the gradual scale is blocked (I’ve had enough of it); it is positively oriented when such a zone is not taken into account, thus opening the access to the associated notion, may it be gradable or not (she’s happy enough; your word is enough). Also considered is the use of too that takes a value of high degree in the associated notion (too kind of you). This investigation accounts for corresponding zones of valuation between the semantic scale of degrees and the gradient of the associated notion.
