The cabins of Beauduc, makeshift dwellings installed on the Camargue coast, are here the subject of a reflection on the way in which such a popular experience of living there can resonate in our contemporary societies. Endowed with a heterotopic function in the Foucauldian sense, inscribed in “another space”, the experience is analyzed there in what it conceals of paradigmatic potential from the point of view of the relationship to space, when the latter is produced by the inhabitant himself, and from the point of view of living in an uncertain environment, in the context of climate change. The symbolic and narrative registers, the constructive knowledge, adaptive to the flood and the notion of precarity which appears central there provide some frameworks of reflections which connect us to this experience.

Les cabanes de Beauduc, habitations de fortune installées sur le littoral camarguais, sont ici l’objet d’une réflexion sur la manière dont peut résonner dans nos sociétés contemporaines une telle expérience populaire de l’habiter. Dotée d’une fonction hétérotopique au sens foucaldien, s’inscrivant dans un « espace autre », l’expérience y est analysée dans ce qu’elle recèle de potentiel paradigmatique du point de vue du rapport à l’espace, lorsque ce dernier est produit par l’habitant lui-même, et du point de vue de l’habiter dans un milieu incertain, en contexte de changement climatique. Les registres symboliques et narratifs, les savoirs constructifs, adaptatifs à l’inondation et la notion de précarité qui y apparaît centrale four- nissent quelques trames de réflexions qui nous relient à cette expérience.
