In his book "Science as an Art" (original version: "Wissenschaft als Kunst", 1984), Feyerabendsets out the arguments he intends to develop as follows: “The sciences do not constitute thecommonly accepted conceptual unity that grants them immense authority within the state; andthe practices that make up the scientific field do not differ from other human activities asmuch as the fundamental distinction generally made between art and science would suggest.”Unfortunately, his argument is far from convincing. He draws on the approach of art criticism(Riegl, Gombrich), but with a vision of art that is far too restrictive, limited to Antiquity andthe Renaissance, and treats science only in overly general terms, historically very narrow andneglecting the socio-economic and political conditions that constrain it. Ultimately, howeverwell-intentioned he may be, Feyerabend, beyond his provocative stance, fails to pull off hisexperiment.

Dans son ouvrage "La science en tant qu'art" (version originale : "Wissenschaft als Kunst", 1984), Feyerabend définit ainsi les thèses qu'il entend développer : « Les sciences ne constituent pas l'unité conceptuelle communément admise qui leur vaut de jouir d'une immense autorité au sein de l'État ; et les pratiques qui composent le champ scientifique ne diffèrent pas autant des autres activités humaines que ne le laisse supposer la distinction fondamentale faite généralement entre l'art et la science. ». Malheureusement, sa démonstration est loin d'être convaincante. Il s'appuie sur la démarche de la critique d'art (Riegl, Gombrich), mais avec une vision de l'art bien trop restrictive, réduite à l'Antiquité et à la Renaissance, et ne traite la science que de façon trop générale, historiquement très limitée et négligeant les conditions socioéconomiques et politiques qui la contraignent. Finalement, quel que soit l'intérêt de ses intentions, Feyerabend, par-delà sa posture provocatrice, ne réussit pas à transformer son essai.
