Today, the figure of Anchises is sometimes associated with family emigration. Indeed, Aeneas fled defeated Troy carrying his father on his back and holding his son by the hand, a legendary motif that would be taken up by many artists. This was followed by tribulations in the Mediterranean region, until the Trojans reached Italy, where they were destined to found a new city, which would later become Rome, according to the Aeneid. This epic recounts the origins, destiny and future of the line of Anchises, and by definition it glorifies deeds (past action) through narrative and speech: the legendary story is based on revived and preserved memory. Like Janus looking both to the past and the future, the patriarch illustrates the story of the Trojan exile, but also of all exile.

La figure d'Anchise est aujourd'hui parfois choisie comme représentation de l'émigration en famille. En effet Énée a fui Troie vaincue en prenant son père sur son dos, et son fils par la main, motif légendaire qui sera repris par de nombreux artistes. S'ensuivent des tribulations dans l'espace méditerranéen, jusqu'en Italie où les Troyens sont destinés à fonder une nouvelle ville, qui sera plus tard Rome selon le propos de l'Énéide. Cette épopée raconte les origines, le devenir, le futur de la lignée d'Anchise, et par définition elle valorise la geste (l'action passée), grâce au récit et à la parole : l'histoire légendaire repose sur la mémoire ressuscitée et entretenue. Comme Janus regardant à la fois le passé et le futur, le patriarche illustre l'histoire de l'exil troyen, mais aussi de tout exil.
