Legal Framework and Challenges for E-Commerce in Vietnam

<div><p>In the digital era, e-commerce is a key sector worldwide. Vietnam is no exception. According to a report by the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, the country's e-commerce continues to assert its position as one of the fastest-growing economic sectors. Retail e-commerce in Vietnam surpassed $25 billion in 2024, up 20% compared to 2023, and ranks among the world's fastest-growing markets 1 . This growth stems from a long-term effort, notably a firm legal foundation, starting with the 2005 Law on Electronic Transactions. While progress has been made, legal gaps remain. This article reviews the legal landscape, challenges, and proposes some recommendations to improve Vietnam's e-commerce legal framework.</p></div>
